2006 ‘Special Release’ Shiraz

James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010 Edition

Rating 95/100

As deep as the varietal, but with more crimson; abounds with luscious, but complex, spice and pepper black fruits, licorice and plum; the palate has multiple layers. Screwcap.  14.5% To 2026

Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 (Nick Stock)

Rating 94/100 (Seriously great wine with all aspects of style and quality in top form.  Well ahead of the pack.)

Very different from the standard shiraz, this has a brooding nose of boot polish and olive, some iodine, tar and black strap licorice.  The palate has impressive depth and weight, unleashing rich blood plum and blackberry flavour with muscular tannins stretching the whole distance.  Plum stone finish.  Best left alone for a few years yet.
